Education and Training
VCN provides year-round opportunities for citizens, public officials and conservation professionals to learn more about key environmental and public policy issues affecting Virginia.
- VCN sponsors the annual Virginia Environmental Assembly to train conservation professionals and volunteers in effective nonprofit management and current science on a wide variety of environmental topics. Each Environmental Assembly offers opportunities to network, breakout workshops, and an exhibit hall featuring VCN members and our partner organizations.
- VCN's Legislative Contact Teams (LCT) program equips volunteers to serve as conservation ambassadors to their communities and public officials. Each summer, VCN and the Virginia League of Conservation Voters Education Fund host five regional workshops to provide LCT volunteers with message training and up-to-date policy research. - VCN's annual Legislative Workshop, held the first Saturday in December, gives citizens a preview of the upcoming General Assembly Session and helps answer their questions about environmental issues in the state.
- VCN sponsors Conservation Lobby Day each January, with briefings on environmental legislation and budget issues.
- VCN also partners with its member organizations to host additional conferences, workshops and seminars on a wide range of topics. For upcoming educational opportunities, visit the VCN events page.
