BIRDS OF A FEATHER STICK TOGETHER
February 23, 2007 – The Washington Post
It's not often you find a wide variety of animal habitats in a relatively concentrated area, and it's even rarer that such a pristine spot is open to the public. But that's exactly what you'll find at the Blue Ridge Center for Environmental Stewardship in the northwest corner of Loudoun County. The nearly 900-acre site, which is owned by the Robert and Dee Leggett Foundation... - BY AMY BRECOUNT WHITE |

MERCURY STUDY GETS NEEDED MONEY
Review will assess effects on environment, public health
February 20, 2007 - THE VIRGINIAN-PILOT
Gov. Timothy M. Kaine said Monday that he will finance a major study of mercury and its toxic effects on Virginia’s environment and public health. The study was commissioned last year in state clear-air legislation but never received any money. Kaine said he is dedicating $256,000 this year for the scientific review, which the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality will oversee. A final report should be ready by May 2008. The money is being pulled from the state Environmental Emergency Response Fund, where pollution fines are deposited, and does not require approval of state lawmakers. - BY SCOTT HARPER |

February 17, 2007 – The Daily Press
The Chesapeake Bay Foundation has filed a lawsuit challenging a decision to allow Newport News to continue work on the King William Reservoir. The State Water Control Board in December agreed to extend Newport News Waterworks' permit, which is necessary to do any work planning the 12.2-billion gallon reservoir. – BY PATRICK LYNCH |

Scenic Virginia - Thank Your Legislator for Opposing Senate Billboard Bill
The House DEFEATED SB 1102, special interest legislation that would have given billboards preferential treatment when they are relocated due to road widening. Virginia Conservation Network and Virginia League of Conservation Voters opposed this legislation and it’s a great win for us! Check who voted here and if your delegate voted against the bill, send a note thanking him or her.
Beauty is good for business, and all of us must take steps to keep Virginia competitive with other beautiful places.

Join Earthjustice for Climate Crisis Action Day - 2007
Thousands of concerned citizens will gather at the United States Capitol to tell Congress it's time to tackle global warming head-on, with responsible energy decisions and protections -- not drilling -- for special places like the Arctic Wildlife Refuge. The clock is ticking on climate change. Leading scientists are warning we are near "a tipping point" and must act now to avoid large-scale, irreversible impacts. We get the message. But does the new Congress? Be a part of the Climate Crisis Action Day in Washington D.C. on March 20, 2007, and tell our leaders we can't wait any longer.
